What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a boutique event planning team that designs and produces high-end weddings, social, corporate, and non-profit events. We work with clients all over the world to bring their events to life. We typically are working with a client who wants an elevated, customized experience for both themselves during the planning as well as their guests during the event.

Tell us about yourself

I fell into the event world when I was a Sophomore at San Diego State. I was a business major and didn't want to do one more accounting class, so I decided to change my major. I went to the course catalog book and said the next thing I open to is what I am going to do (very smart, I know). Lo and behold, it opened to Hospitality and Tourism Management with an Emphasis in Event Planning, and I knew I had just found the next step in my career. Fast forward to graduation, and I landed a job at American Express planning corporate meetings. It was an amazing introduction to the event world, and it lit a fire inside of me. Soon after, I started Intertwined Events with Meghan, and the rest is history. I absolutely love what I do. I'm privileged to get the opportunity to make dreams happen and create moments that people will cherish for the rest of their lives. I don't take it lightly because it's a very important job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is my team. I just love them. We honestly have the best team in the world right now, and I would put them up against anyone else. They are hungry, talented, hard-working females, but more than that, they are kind, make me laugh, work hard and play hard, and are all-around amazing humans. If they are empowered and doing great work, I feel like that's a success on our side as business owners.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Haha, my biggest accomplishment is also the hardest part. Humans are so different, which means that everyone works differently, is inspired differently, and has different needs... it's a lot to figure out and to ensure that your processes meet all their needs. I want to ensure that our team is always happy, able to do their best job and feel fulfilled in their lives. That's tough at times to navigate, especially with a growing team!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Patience, Dedication, and Knowing Your Why are the three most important things for being a business owner. You have to be patient and know that success does not happen overnight. You need to be dedicated. Motivation comes and goes, but if you are dedicated, you will stay up to work late, sacrifice a night out with friends, and push through those hard meetings. And more than anything, you have to know your why... why are you working those long hours, dealing with the drama or stress, or working when you want to be playing? When you know your why, the answer is easy, and you can push through to the other side!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being a business owner is the biggest challenge and the biggest gift. I'm grateful every day that I get to wake up and do a job I'm passionate about. I also know our success means our team can put food on the table. It's a responsibility I don't take lightly.
