Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chelsea Fournier, Business Mentor & Human Design Guide of Intuitive Business By Design, located in Wilmington, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an intuitive business mentor and Human Design Guide. I help sensitive souls and new-ish coaches and healers birth the online business they have been dreaming of and turn their purpose into profit. Most of my clients have recently finished a certification, training, or program that set their souls on fire to bring the modality or work out to the world. Some are honing their own gifts of clairvoyance, energy healing, or intuition to support others.

Tell us about yourself

My first career was as a business & start-up lawyer. I can clearly recall long days when I would log out of my work-issued computer and then fire up my personal laptop to google, search, and brainstorm how I might one day be able to work for myself as a coach helping clients in ways I couldn't do directly as a lawyer. In those years, I struggled with anxiety, physical pain, and unhealthy coping mechanisms in dealing with all of the stress. Now I run my mentoring business part-time on top of being a mom and am motivated every day to support my clients in designing the online business they were born to run, combining proven strategies with deep self-awareness through Human Design.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I recently received a message from a client who is a breathwork facilitator and plant medicine guide. Since working together, she has been able to use my methods and launch multiple offerings that she loves running. She has stepped out of overworking and unhealthy work patterns to embrace her Human Design, her strengths, and the simplicity of her business systems. She just had her first $100k year. She is the sole provider for her family, homeschools her children, and is designing a life of freedom and choice as she helps others. My biggest accomplishment is seeing one client at a time "get it" and embrace what is possible. If I can help 1,000+ women in my career over time have similar experiences and expansion, I will feel that my mission has played out.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Feeling the pressure to always be learning, chasing, growing, and hustling. Over the past year, as I have embraced my own Human Design, I have become so much more aware of why certain impulses, frustrations, and roadblocks pop up for me. Stepping out of comparison and just embracing my own energy, strengths, goals, and journey is my personal challenge. And I believe many others face this same struggle.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get really clear on the transformation you want to support people through. It's so much easier to get clear on this than all the marketing, avatar, and ideal customer worksheets in the world.
  2. Surround yourself with other entrepreneurs who are in a similar phase as you. If you are starting out, join a mastermind or membership of women at a similar stage. Or even find a business bestie you trust and feel similar values as, and stay in touch as often as you can. What you are trying to do can feel lonely. Create barriers around that to stay in connection with people who can understand what you are going through.
  3. Tap into a form of deepening self-awareness that resonates with you. For me, it's Human Design. You can learn so much about what is true for you and honor your unique journey - rather than get stuck in the comparison game or frustrated that things are going slower for you than you expected. It's all about making accommodations and giving yourself grace - not making excuses. Just letting you be you and letting your path be what it is.
