Helping Women With Life Long Weight Issues - Jacalyn Poyner

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jacalyn Poyner, Founder of Inspire Me to Health, located in Alexander, AR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a Certified Health Coach and Nutritional Health Practitioner focusing on Emotional Eating Psychology and Mindset, I help women who have struggled with lifelong weight issues.

Tell us about yourself

In 2019 I was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. I made the decision not to go through the regular treatment of chemotherapy and radiation because of what those treatments would do to my body. I chose instead to take control of my health and change my life. I cut out all the sugar from my diet and began eating real, whole foods. I also met with a friend who was a health coach who conducted a hair analysis. The hair analysis showed that I had high cadmium levels (a toxic metal) that could lead to cancer. I began eating the right foods and taking the right supplements for my body so that I could decrease the cadmium levels and get my body back to a healthy state. I also addressed the stress in my life and stopped working out to exhaustion. I am now three years cancer free, have lost 57lbs, and have more energy than I have had in the past 20 years.

As I began changing my life, I decided to go back to school to become a Health Coach and Nutritional Health Practitioner. I did this because I wanted to help others who have struggled with their own life-long weight issues, so they never have to hear those dreaded words, "you have cancer."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment I have had as a business owner has been to connect and provide value to those who have struggled with the same life-long weight issues that I have. Doing this work, I realized that being a Health Coach is my true calling.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is running my own business while still working a full-time job as a Managing Consultant.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be in a hurry to build your business. It takes hard work in the beginning, and it can be slow going. It's important to stay the course.
  2. Be very focused on your ideal client and those you want to serve. You can't serve everyone.
  3. Be a constant learner. Learn new ways to serve your clients every day.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

To lose weight, it's more than just diet and exercise for someone who has struggled with weight their entire lives. It takes a change in mindset too. If you don't address your mindset, you can lose the weight, but it just won't stay gone.
