Tell us about yourself

I started in the jewelry industry after leaving military service in 1986 with a jewelry store named Cowell and Hubbard in Akron, Ohio. I shortly fell in love with selling jewelry and began my journey in the jewelry industry. Today, being the proud owner of my family business and working beside my son is a dream that I have held close to my heart for years. Though the future is not certain for anyone, I am praying that my Jewelry Legacy is only beginning.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being Nominated to be on the Jewelers of America Board.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

So many come to mind. Lol. The level of work and hats that you must wear. This is always a challenge, though I have always totally embraced the challenges. That's not to say that it is not very hard and draining at times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Study the industry, learn all that you can about the industry that you are going into.
  2. Find business mentors that are proven and that you trust.
  3. Know your TRUE COST. To successfully go into that business, it's ok to go in undercapitalized but know what is truly needed and do your best to get that dollar amount if possible.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You have to love, love, love what you do. But just passion won't make it work. You need to educate yourself and be as smart as you can with every move.
