Activate Your Body’s Healing Ability - Jennifer Stevenson

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Stevenson, owner of Jade Spring Acupuncture, located in Wheat Ridge, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Jade Spring Acupuncture offers acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in a supportive, caring, and non-judgmental environment. My clients come to me with many varying health concerns, but in general, they are people who are interested in a holistic, natural approach to healing and medicine. Some of the most common things I treat include anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, allergies, headaches and migraines, digestive disruption, and musculoskeletal pain. Because Chinese Medicine activates the body's natural healing response, I can treat a wide variety of health problems.

Tell us about yourself

My journey with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine started with my own health problems. I was in my early twenties and dealing with migraines and chronic fatigue, and I started seeing an acupuncturist while I was living in Israel. Her treatments made a huge difference to my health and inspired me to want to do the same for others. I believe that we all have a positive contribution to make to the world, but sometimes health issues can keep us from fully realizing that potential. Acupuncture provides a treatment that contributes to people's health so that they can do the work they are meant to do and live to their fullest potential.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It felt like a huge accomplishment to just start my business. I was raised in Namibia and moved to the United States to get my Master's Degree in Chinese Medicine, and it was a long road to achieving that first goal. Then the second step was to start my business and grow it, and I'm grateful that ten years in, my business is still thriving. I am grateful for all the help and support I got along the way and for the many wonderful clients I have worked with over the years.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Knowing what the best marketing practices are and staying on top of networking with other professionals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Join a networking group when you first start out because this is a great way to meet other professionals and get the word out there about your services.
  2. Start simply and keep your initial overheads low.
  3. Nurture genuine relationships with the people you are working with and bring kindness and an open heart into all your interactions.
