Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeremy Fisher, a freelance video editor and replay operator based in Miami, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work in sports television production, and my customers are sports fans around the world.

Tell us about yourself

Growing up near Detroit, MI, I was a huge sports fan growing up. My parents ran their own small video company, shooting and editing national commercials, local shows, events, parties, and more. Being around them, I picked up numerous skills I still use today, like timing, transitions, and lighting. So I took my parent's work skills and morphed them into my love of sports, and now I never really feel pressure or the drags of a normal job because I do what I love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment, besides the three Emmy Awards earned, is I travel when I want to. I can schedule time off to see the world with my wife whenever I want because, as a freelancer, there are others who can fill in while I'm gone. The trick is to not be gone too much, or your replacement is permanent.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about my job is live production stress from rapid events happening at the same time and also getting enough sleep between gigs.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

To run a business or working for yourself is very complicated and stressful. The paperwork due for taxes and payroll can be easily overlooked, and when you are doing very well, you need time to recharge your batteries because the gig keeps coming. Your body can not work for 30 straight days.
