Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Arent, CEO of ORIAUM, located in Colorado Springs, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are in the business of wellness from a 5,000-year-old method called AYURVEDA. We have blended several products with functional mushrooms for cognitive health and others with cannabinoids for neurological wellness addressing the major concerns people have about their personal health. We work to reach and teach those who are conscientious about their health, the products they put in their bodies, and the preventative measures they want for long-term quality of life, naturally.

Tell us about yourself

At 29 years old, I was 306 pounds, living on anti-depressants, pale and miserable. My daughter was 3 at the time, and one day came out of preschool asking if I was fat. This was eye-opening and lit a fire. I set off on a journey of wellness that wrapped around healthy, natural options. As the years passed and my breadth of knowledge for my own health grew, I began to understand that man is not designed to process pharmaceuticals or compounds, but instead, we were designed to sustain our health from the abundance of mother earth. Cannabis, mushrooms, and hemp were just the tip of the iceberg. As I dove deeper to address my mental health and the new aches and pains that were a result of the weight loss, I understood that natural was the safest and most efficient way to achieve the health goals I had. The brand and the products are a lifelong dream of sharing my journey and the idea that you can live your best life at any age, naturally.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Getting the whole shebang off the ground! I am in 2 countries and three time zones. I have teams around the world that I get the privilege to work with who are committed to the end goal. HEALING THE WORLD. The drive to get out of bed, even on the most challenging days when I don't want to "ADULT," is a great accomplishment because it speaks to purpose, drive, and a will to succeed at any cost.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Never enough time. There is this constant feeling of things left undone and yet to accomplish. Then there is personal time. It takes a conscientious desire to take an hour to breathe in and breathe out and take a moment just to be.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you are not passionate about it, and you cannot convey that passion to anyone and everyone that will listen, business ownership is not for you.
  2. It takes tenacity, drive, ambition, and the ability to ignore and block out those who will tell you failure is imminent.
  3. Don't put the energy and focus into what created the problem. Rather, spend the time to analyze and think creatively about the solution.
  4. You are limited only by yourself. Don't succumb to self-sabotage. There is nothing you cannot do or achieve if you decide it is yours to have and do.
