Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Grochowsky, Co-Founder of 2 Gals, LLC, located in Jacksonville, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The business is 2 Gals, and we have a free podcast called "Two Gals and a Glass Half Full" and a paid membership group called "2 Gals Insiders". Our customers are individuals that are interested in living a healthy, more mindful lifestyle and are looking to accomplish that through small sustainable changes.

Tell us about yourself

Dr. Bobbie and I were classmates in grad school and have been great friends ever since. Living in separate cities since graduating, we have grown our careers in Physical Therapy and supported each other over the last 12 years. In early 2022 we were both in the early stages of building the framework for our own private practices, Core Essentials Physical Therapy & Wellness in Jacksonville, FL, and Level Up Osteopractic in Chicago, IL. We needed some time together as friends to catch up in person as well as support the framework and development of our clinics. Therefore, we decided to attend our national conference in San Antonio, Texas. There were a number of great talks to support private practice owners, as well as good treatment intervention talks. However, one talk stood out above the rest. It was all about starting and growing a podcast. It all clicked for the missing piece to our practices' framework, a podcast. It is too much work for us to each do separately, so we decided that weekend to do it together.

The missing piece to our practices was how to support our patients in the long run. Our healthcare system is great at treating illness, but it is not so great with the prevention of illness/ injury and supporting individuals in the long term to lead a more balanced and healthier lifestyle. This can all be accomplished through mindfulness and a community that supports each other. It is well documented in the research that regular participation in exercise, proper hydration/ nutrition, adequate sleep, and mental well-being improves the health of every system of the body and significantly reduce the risk of chronic illness in every system of the body. Therefore, the podcast is an economical way for individuals in a broader community than just Jacksonville and Chicago to receive long-term support in leading a more mindful and wellness-based lifestyle. Each month a different topic is chosen, and episodes are released weekly to support that topic. Some episodes are with just us, and others include interviews with others that know more about a certain topic and share our knowledge and experience in the episode. Monthly topics include goal setting, exercise, nutrition, stress, mental well-being, sleep, toxin-free living, leadership, pain, Breast Cancer Awareness, relationships, and mindful gift-giving.

Our motivation comes from the enjoyment of learning and growing together as we continue to build and grow the podcast community and connect with our members and the individuals we interview. Also, being a part of something bigger than us and doing our part to help decrease preventable illness and pain gives us purpose that drives us forward.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment has been seeing the dream and framework develop into a sustainable product that is helping individuals in our own communities, as well as others that live in areas all across the United States.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest challenge is time. As private practice owners, we have management of our clinics, in addition to running 2 Gals. It takes consistency with blocking our schedules at the same time to plan everything in advance and set our meetings, goals, and implementation plan.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your why. What is your passion, and how can that passion fill a need in the world around you?
  2. Do your financial plan. How much is it going to take to get your business off the ground, how much to operate your business monthly/ quarterly/ yearly, and how much revenue can you bring to cover your costs and then see a profit?
  3. Find a way to have fun every day. Smiling and laughing is good for your health!
