What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a writer of horror, science fiction, and fantasy, and my customers are readers around the world.
Tell us about yourself
I've been writing fiction for more than 20 years. I got started because I wrote and submitted a story, and the editor liked it and said I had a knack for this. I get up each day and write because I love what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've had 3 books make it as finalists for major awards, I've had 19 books and more than 85 short stories published, and I've entertained a lot of people.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Never knowing what your next paycheck will be. That, and making sure to sit down each day and write without getting distracted.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start part-time and grow it while you keep your day job.
- Make sure you have enough money in the bank to get you through hard times.
- Create a schedule and stick to it every day, no matter what.
