What's your business, and who are your customers?

Jk Beautique is a one-stop-shop for today's leading beauty services. Eyelash and hair extensions are our top services. We also do many other things such as tooth bling, cosmetic tattoos, makeup, brows, and more. We also teach a lash extension course and certify new artists. Our clientele range and really include everyone. Because we have so many artists with different styles and services, you can find every gender and age range in our studio!

Tell us about yourself

I have been working in the beauty industry since 2007. I had worked in a few shops and beauty studios and decided I wanted to work by myself. I enjoy making my own rules, and I feel most motivated when taking risks. I started hiring when I could no longer handle all the clients all my own, and before I knew it, I had over ten artists working with me. I love my clients, and chatting with them when I see them, it motivates me to see them feel amazing when their service is complete.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say I am most known for color lash styles and unique lash designs - some looks went viral and were globally published around 2017. But I would say that having my business survive the pandemic was a huge accomplishment. We were hit extremely hard and had to close. I had to move salon spaces to continue with the business, and I had to make so many hard choices, but in the end, it was what was best for the company.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say work-life balance. Sometimes it’s hard to shut off when I get home. My phone will go off at any time with an issue that needs to be solved while I am at home with my family. Setting boundaries and stress and time management are so important.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I would say going at your own pace and doing what works for you is important. There is a lot of pressure to be β€œ big,” but I have found that I have been less stressed and even more profitable in the smaller stages of my company. Enjoy the journey and be grateful for what you have accomplished and where you are now.
