Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in consultancy but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jonathan Krause, Founder of Synclarity Consulting, located in Pleasanton, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Strategic Management Consulting for first-time startup founders, early-stage entrepreneurs, and small business owners in the sectors of education, healthcare, and the life sciences.

Tell us about yourself

My passion for helping people started early in my career as a social services case manager, which transformed into working with large fortune 500 companies through business services in workforce/economic development and led to a career in healthcare sales. Throughout that time, I also worked as a coach, sales trainer, and vocational skills training. I have always questioned how things are done, looked at what was possible, and asked, "why not?"

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my first clients reported that they are experiencing 300% growth year over year in sales after working together in 2021 and their first year in real estate.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Setting goals with realistic expectations, understanding that you can't boil the ocean, and slow progress is better than no progress. The main goal is to stay consistent, focused on your end goal, and be flexible, adaptable, and open-minded on how to achieve your goals positively. Most importantly, never stop learning.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be honest about how challenging it will be, even in the best circumstances.
  2. It has to be about more than money; otherwise, you will get discouraged and lose objectivity when things aren't as productive as you would like them to be.
  3. Paying customers is your best source of investment capital
before giving away equity, assuming additional debt, or taking money from venture capital or private equity, make sure you have a solid product-market-fit, market validation, and a strong pipeline of potential paying customers.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Entrepreneurship can be for anyone but isn't for everyone. People will pay for solutions to problems that they didn't think could be solved, and real problems need real solutions. If you are interested in adding value to people's lives by solving problems and helping them save time, money, and resources. Entrepreneurship may be right for you.
