Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jordan Bruley-Hauser, Founder & Non-Diet Health Coach of Jordanbhealthy LLC, located in Eau Claire, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a non-diet health coach and personal trainer working one-on-one with clients online and in person. We help people ditch the diet culture and discover joyful movement, food freedom, and sustainable self-care rhythms. Taking a Health At Every Size approach and with compassion-first coaching, we meet clients right where they're at on their health journey. Believing that health-promoting behaviors are for any and everyBODY, I work with clients of all ages. Taking small individualized steps, clients learn how to support their bodies while unlearning toxic beliefs from the diet culture industry.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a non-diet coach, group fitness instructor, and dog mom who loves being outdoors, hiking, biking, kayaking, or rock climbing! Growing up as a gymnast, I was always passionate about fitness which led me to get my Bachelor's in Exercise Science & Nutrition. Throughout school, I worked in corporate wellness as a group fitness instructor. I loved getting to know the participants in my classes. After graduating, I pursued my certification in personal training and worked in a gym. I discovered I loved working one-on-one, helping people learn to lift weights, and creating programs that worked well for their unique needs. When the pandemic started, I left the in-person space and took my business online. This was a time of huge growth for me both as an entrepreneur and in my personal beliefs on health and wellness. Throughout this time of learning about the Health At Every Size movement and practicing Intuitive Eating, I became a Non-diet Health Coach. This transformed my relationship with my own body and with how I helped my clients through movement and finding food freedom. I feel so honored to be able to work so closely with people as they go through this journey themselves. I genuinely love getting to guide my clients through this process and seeing them find joy in their health habits again!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is running my first course back in person this year. After being online during the pandemic, it was amazing to get to work with people face-to-face again. Seeing my hard work online transfer into an actual live course helping women learn to tune into their bodies has been amazing. I am excited to continue with more in-person opportunities and am so grateful to grow my business in this great Eau Claire community.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest part of being a business owner is keeping up with all the new ways and techniques to be an online business. My background is in Exercise Science, not in marketing or business. It's been a hard but also gratifying experience to learn the ins and outs of working online with all the different technology available.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start Slow: Baby steps are key! In order to thrive, you need your business to be sustainable. Trying to take on everything at once will only burn you out quickly.
  2. Find Community: It can be lonely if you're working by yourself. Find a community either in your area or turn to online groups. This is a great way to learn from others and give support.
  3. Take Care of Yourself: Be sure to invest in your self-care. It can seem really hard to step away from a business that relies on you to grow. Even if it seems counter-intuitive, giving yourself time away to recharge will actually help you work better.
