Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kay Allison, Founder of Juicy AF, located in Boulder, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Juicy AF helps successful women stop the drinking spiral that drains their energy and repurpose that energy to create their ideal lives.

Tell us about yourself

When I was new to sobriety, I walked into a recovery meeting. A gorgeous, put-together woman was telling her story. She told a story about what happened at 3 a.m. one night with her husband, boyfriend, and police at her house, which she thought was perfectly normal. She threw back her mane of auburn curls and laughed.

I was shocked. I was buried in shame, remorse, and denial and topped everything off by pretending that everything was OK. She embodied hope, freedom, and the sparkle of being fully alive.

I started Juicy AF, the book, program, and community, as a beacon of hope for other women who drink too much.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I increased my income by a multiple of 6 after I got sober and left corporate America to start my first company.

Drinking regularly rewires your brain to increase your anxiety. Helping women learn to live without developing that "edge" that requires a drink to remove is beyond satisfying.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Twenty million adults are diagnosed with alcohol use disorders. I was NOT one of them. This way understates the extent of the problem. Because of the vastness of the need, I find it hard to focus.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus where your greatest gifts and the world's most profound need meet.
  2. See the world through the eyes of your ideal customer by talking with them several times a week.
  3. Build a team of people who are uniquely skilled at the things you aren't great at.
