Making Your Business Unignorable - Julie Zhu

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Zhu, Award-Winning Marketing Expert, based in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a marketing consultancy, helping passionate entrepreneurs and small business owners find their unique voice, build meaningful connections with their communities, and scale their businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business driven by a passion for storytelling. The opportunity to creatively shape a brand's narrative and impact its audience drew me in. What keeps me motivated each day is the variety of challenges that my diverse range of clients presents. From health clinics to jewelry brands, each project is a unique learning opportunity, allowing me to deeply understand their audience and tell their unique stories.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my proudest moments as a business owner came from working with a client who was overwhelmed by social media. She had a great service but just couldn't crack the code of online visibility. So, I created a personalized marketing strategy for her. It was amazing to see the transformation – her social media following tripled, she was fully booked, and within a year, she even opened a second office in New Jersey. This whole experience didn't just skyrocket her business; it really inspired and encouraged me to see how I've contributed to my client's success.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the most challenging aspects of being a business owner is managing your time and making all your own decisions. This role goes beyond just enjoying the freedom and flexibility of setting your own schedule. It involves a deep and ongoing journey of self-discovery and self-discipline.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Talk to at least five potential clients to understand how you can best help them.
  2. Start building your community on a social media platform.
  3. Attend five industry events and get chatting about your ideas.
