Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marketa Huzel, founder of Kaleidoscope of Life, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help high achievers to turn their inner turmoil and exhaustion into inner peace and sparkling energy so that they can live the life they want.

Tell us about yourself

I got into the coaching space in 2017 because of my own deteriorating interest in the career I used to love. I was in Human Resources for 13 years at that time and suddenly realized that I no longer aspired to the positions I used to. I thought something was wrong with me, so I started looking for a significant change. When I started exploring what I wanted, I hired my first coach. And realized that as an HR professional with a focus on change management, I could help people change their lives for the better! I'd say my favorite part is to see people shift. When I help them discover who they are and what they need and want at this stage of their life. That's honestly what got me up in the morning and focused on my future plans.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Outside of the fact that I help my clients change their life for the better, I was giving myself a goal that I didn't want to be a statistic - 50% of companies fail within the first five years. I am in year 6! So both of those I take as a success worth celebrating!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

To be completely honest, it's marketing and sales. I am in an online space. I love what I do; I love helping people and creating expansion for them in their lives. That is why I started my company. I didn't say to myself: I want to be a marketer and a salesperson! :-) But marketing and sales are essential to keep the business going.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

It's really hard to pick only three. There is so much to be aware of and good to know. Life is a journey, and so is a business. But these 3 are a good start:

  1. Make sure you understand that what you love to do is not the only thing you'd do in your business. Business is not always fun!
  2. You have to be very courageous, disciplined, committed, and master your mindset. Not every day is a fun day, and life still happens.
  3. Surround yourself with people (at least one) who will support you no matter what.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It is a blessing to do what you love and you're good at, especially when you think that you are going to work most of your life! So choose wisely. But, no one says that you have to do the same thing forever either. Staying open-minded, in check with reality, and yet following your dreams and passions is essential. Being a creative, curious, and life-long learner with patience pays off!
