What's your business, and who are your customers?

Kandoo Design is a full-service design firm with over 12 years of experience in the commercial, hospitality, and residential industries. Our job is to bring life to your vision and create beautiful spaces that are team designs spaces that are important to you and give life to your vision. Our professional and creative team has been designing spaces that not only meet your functional needs but also inspire you every day. No matter the size of the project, the goal is always the same: create a space that results in an 'aww' reaction. We strive in being creative in our design solutions and understand client needs, timelines and budgets.

Tell us about yourself

I am the co-owner, and lead designer at Kandoo Design, graduated from Ryerson University in the Interior Design program. For as long as I can remember, I have always known what I wanted to do as a career. My approach to design is very simple to create an experience. For me, It's not about what you put in the space, but how it makes you feel. When you sit on the sofa and touch the fabric, what feelings are triggered, that's the experience!

This industry is constantly evolving, and creating a space that is important to the client can be stressful, but what keeps me motivated is envisioning that end result, the 'Big Reveal.' Seeing the client's reaction to their new space and how it makes them feel that's what I love about my job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being a business owner has its good and not-so-good moments. But all those moments are yours to experience. I love that I get to celebrate my victories and learn from my falls, no matter how big or small.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There is no such thing as 'business hours.' You work all day, every day
but like Confucius once said: 'if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.'

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something you are passionate about because you will need that fire to keep going when times get hard.
  2. Don't listen to people that say 'you can't do it or 'it isn't too late to start! It's NEVER too late to start living and loving.
  3. DON'T give up, and DON'T regret! Wake up every day with a positive attitude and put whatever you got into it will happen if you believe it!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I have always loved this quote and live by so I want to share and maybe spark a little something in someone. 'The beginning is the most important part of the work.' - Plato.

Trust the magic of a new beginning, take a deep breath, and dive right in. You will be amazingly surprised by the experience awaiting!
