Strategic Ways to Reduce Pet Overpopulation - Kay Stout

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kay Stout, Owner of P S Consulting, located in Edmond, OK, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The business is consulting in the nonprofit animal rescue world for nonprofit animal shelters and rescue organizations.

Tell us about yourself

I left the corporate world of consulting in 2010 to begin a new career in animal rescue. Each day I'm motivated to help shelters and rescuers save as many dogs and cats as possible. Find new sources of funds and build collaboration.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Developed a "hub" system to transport out-of-state Oklahoma dogs in crowded shelters. And start up/expand a comprehensive spay/neuter program.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a consultant, the constant challenge is to help rescue organizations find funding to "operate" the business side.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Looking at it from the animal rescue view:

  1. Foster-based programs.
  2. Educational opportunities for children.
  3. Expansion of prison programs that work with shelter dogs who need to understand love and obedience.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I strongly believe collaboration is the key to solving the challenges we face.
