Shaft Pattern Shaft Loom - Kelly Casanova Weaving Lessons

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelly Casanova, Founder of Kelly Casanova Weaving Lessons, located in Gippsland, Victoria, AU.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach people how to weave! I have an online weaving school Youtube channel, selling my designs as digital downloads. My students are all over the world and from all different backgrounds.

Tell us about yourself

I started sharing my passion for weaving with others on Youtube back in 2016. A few videos on my channel have now grown to hundreds of videos, creating a demand for further online learning. I started my online school to continue sharing my passion and to help ignite enthusiasm in my students. My students motivate me every day with their willingness to try, the success they achieve from my lessons, and their desire for further learning.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being in a position to help so many people is a huge blessing and something I never imagined I would be able to do. My biggest accomplishment is the success of my students.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the biggest challenges for me is the workload. Because of the nature of my business, there is very little that I can outsource. Sometimes this can be overwhelming, particularly feeling that I also have to "do it all" by keeping up with social media, my blog, weaving school, Youtube channel, and everything else that comes with being a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start small. That way, you can grow with the business.
  2. Don't give up. This is a typical tip, but I've often wanted to give up, and I'm so glad I didn't.
  3. You don't need a huge following to make an income. Focus on building a good quality community.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Advice is great, but that doesn't mean you must follow it. Listen to many creators and entrepreneurs, be inspired, and then use that inspiration to follow your path.

You don't have to do things the way "everybody else" is.
