Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kimberly Baker, Creative Director and Owner of Kimberly Baker Studio, located in Vashon, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I make statement jewelry.

Tell us about yourself

I have been making jewelry since 1988 when I took my first jewelry class in high school. I have always loved fashion but jewelry to me is more than a way to be fashionable. It has history and holds our memories, and it becomes a part of our story.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is staying true to my vision and staying in business for over 25 years. My work has been featured in movies and television shows and worn by celebrities, but seeing someone walking down the street looking confident and wearing my work is what makes me keep doing what I do.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being able to wear all the different hats you have to wear to run a business and knowing when to hire someone to take over.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be ok with failure.
  2. Never give up.
  3. Always be learning.
