What's your business, and who are your customers?

At KNOWN SUPPLY, we are in the business of making the fashion industry better for the planet and the people involved in the clothing creation process. We do this by partnering with Fair Trade Certified production partners & using sustainable materials in everything we produce. Even more, we introduce our customers to the people who make their clothing. Learn more: http://makers.knownsupply.com

Tell us about yourself

In 2007, some friends and I traveled to Uganda to start our first clothing brand. We worked alongside local organizations to teach women to crochet headwear and empower them through fair wages & education. From that point, and to this day, we view business as a vehicle to create positive social change in the lives of people around the globe. We continue to work in Uganda to this day, as well as many other places, employing the same model.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment is that we've been in business for over 15 years and have not compromised on our values throughout that time.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing the immediate needs of your business while simultaneously having your eyes set on the future.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build social change into how you operate.
  2. Make sure your product has enough profit margin to sustain your vision over the long term.
  3. Help others succeed.
