We Are Your Best Financial Resource - Koda Bookkeeping

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tevia Hoalst, Owner of Koda Bookkeeping, LLC., located in Boise, ID, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our team at Koda Bookkeeping does all pre-tax and accounting work that businesses need. Our customers are small to medium businesses looking to outsource their accounting needs to professionals who can promptly deliver quality work at a competitive price that saves our clients the time to find, hire, "house," train, and pay for employment costs.

We work directly with their CPA to ensure they are on track for their financial plan all year, ready for taxes without stress or delay, and have reliable financials throughout the year so that they make the most informed, thoughtful decisions as they grow.

Tell us about yourself

I came out of a poor corporate environment; this formed Koda Bookkeeping and who I am as a leader. I am incredibly dedicated to our team as a servant leader. I strongly believe in this mentality, and our team does their best to serve our clients to the best of their ability, resulting in a better "product." What motivates me every day is to cultivate a strong and healthy culture among our team and clients and to stretch beyond our goals to positively affect as many people as possible in achieving this healthy environment.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe my most significant accomplishment has been creating long-term relationships with clients and employees. Having achieved this through delivering on our promises of high quality and consistency over time which includes building strong processes that ensure a top result!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being an owner is learning that you cannot always be everything to everyone. I have a strong desire in alignment with our vision to do more than just deliver a quality product. This means that I have had to learn that sometimes the best outcome for the group is not always the easiest path but is always worth it to maintain our healthy culture and environment for ourselves and our clients.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I don't believe business success is all that hard. First, you must do what you say, deliver quality work or products consistently, and be responsive.

Clients and employees want to be heard and know you are listening and responding in a thoughtful way that is in their best interest within reason. Success is relative to each owner and is not the same as scaling. You must set your own rules for what success means to you and then build what you need to achieve around that.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

As businesses, we are in a unique position. We interact with our communities in multiple ways. We not only serve the community in a B2B or B2C sense but also employ our communities. I believe this gives us greater influence and an equally greater responsibility to serve our communities well and do better than just providing a paycheck or delivering a product or service.

If we do our part and go at that next step and serve our communities beyond our bottom line, we can effect positive change in our communities and reap the positive benefits of all that comes from putting others before ourselves.
