Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nathan Kofmehl, owner of Koffeez Coffee, located in Coeur d'Alene, ID, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Here at Koffeez Coffee, we sell organic specialty coffee to enthusiastic coffee lovers! It is freshly roasted and delivered right to your doorstep! We believe that the outdoors should be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of any physical limitations a person might face. My dad, Will, was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease that unfortunately affected his capabilities in the outdoors.

That is why 10% of every purchase will go to Parkinson's research to help those who have a tougher time enjoying the outdoors. Koffeez Coffee is founded on the principles of enjoying caffeine-fueled family adventures in the great outdoors while donating to a cause that is personal. This is why our customers are everyone who enjoys using coffee to fuel their adventurous days.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in northern Idaho, with my parents pushing me outdoors. I was blessed to call the great pacific northwest my playground, which exposed me to many different activities, whether skiing, hiking, or cliff jumping. This created deep respect and love for all outdoor adventures. This love is a large contributor to creating a business that helps fuel people’s outdoor experiences. Creating this business allows me to work remotely, helping me spend more time adventuring. My primary motivator for getting my work done daily is to be at liberty to enjoy the great outdoors, all while fueling others' adventures.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner will always be the day I launched my store, as this was the moment I started helping fuel everyone's adventures!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I believe work-life balance is the most challenging thing for a business owner, especially starting out. Working your "day job" and your own business, it is very important to schedule your time weekly to ensure you're also leaving time for family and personal care.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Don't let failure stop you! Try to automate anything you can as early as possible. When you start to grow, remember to grow your team as well.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Starting a business is one of the most exciting and fulfilling things I have done. It is very intimidating to start but just know that not everything will be perfect in the beginning, and don't be afraid to make mistakes!
