Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristelle Boulos, Owner of Kristelle Boulos Photography, located in Miami, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a destination wedding and portrait photographer based in Miami. I have been capturing and documenting life for more than 15 years. Mainly, I was photographing street life and travel, but I always loved focusing on people. It was only after my wedding in 2019 —and going through the experience of being photographed—that I realized I could use my passion and style to serve others.

From photographing distant strangers to people in their most intimate aura, I believe that we are all connected on a physical and metaphysical level. I find inspiration and admiration in everyone I cross paths with, so much so that I also have a podcast called "Capturing Connections," where I share conversations with the beautiful souls I have photographed in the past and experts that will dive even deeper into certain topics that revolve around love, careers, psychology, and spirituality.

Tell us about yourself

I first started working on my photography business when I took a step back and looked at my life objectively during the pandemic. I was living my life on autopilot, unfulfilled, working as an employee at an office in a job that was never my true passion. I realized that I buried my real passion (photography) in my heart, waiting for someone to save me. This realization motivated me to take control of my life finally.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was fully believing in myself and taking the plunge to work full-time in my business. When I first established my business in December 2020, I thought it would take me five years to feel confident to quit my full-time job, but it ended up only taking me a year.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is to keep going despite difficult times and to stay focused on the bigger picture without getting lost in the details.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just get started. You don't have to have it all figured out and organized.
  2. Learn about / work on your mindset. It will play a significant role in your business.
  3. Don't be afraid to invest in your business. The more you invest, the more you grow. Invest in education, in templates, in hiring help (whether it's at home or in your business).
