Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Rioux, Co-Founder and CEO of Ladybird Provisions, LLC., located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi! We are Ladybird Provisions, and we make Coffee Bombs! Coffee Bombs are functional beverage enhancers made with organic coconut oil, grass-fed butter, and collagen peptides. Then we add medicinal spices in perfect portions to nourish the body and mind. It's like a pre-made butter coffee "Bomb" perfectly portioned and ready to drop into your hot beverage of choice. Simply "Drop a Bomb" into hot coffee, milk, or tea, blend, and enjoy. We are Dropping Function into Beverage!

Our customers are health-minded individuals. Our main customers are women aged 28-42. We fit well with "KETO," "Paleo," and "IF" and those who know the benefits of healthy fats in the diet and want to avoid/limit sugar. We sell Coffee Bombs to retailers nationwide.

Tell us about yourself

When I was 17 years old, my dad passed away due to complications related to his diabetes, which in his case was totally diet related and preventable. That was a pivotal moment in my life for many reasons, but it is ultimately what made me want to study nutrition, become a registered dietitian, and dedicate my life to helping others through dietary/nutritional.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Growing a business from an idea all the way up to a million-dollar company. Watching it grow and knowing that our products are helping support healthy lifestyles nationwide is pretty amazing. Nicole, my co-founder, has been integral to Ladybird's success.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There are SO many ups and downs... Some days/weeks are awesome, and others are so hard and make you want to quit. Dealing with growth, cash flow, employees, distribution, sourcing, etc., is ever-changing and ever-challenging.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you have passion for it.
  2. Make sure you have a plan and destination.
  3. Know what success means to you before you start.
