THE \S/uperhero Accountant - Lara McCloud

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in finance but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lara McCloud, Founder of THE \S/uperhero Accountant, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I make sales for an Employee Retention Credit firm, and my clients are Latinx business owners who had more than five employees in 2019.

Tell us about yourself

What started my business owner was my lack of fulfillment in my 9 to 5. I realized that I didn't really like accounting, so I started my own accounting firm so that I may increase my income and work part-time. Since then, I have started to fall in love while living in Mexico. Love and health motivate me. I wanted a life where I have time to enjoy my partner and am mentally and physically healthy. I also wanted to be able to travel the world and visit my family as I please. Even though I increased my hourly rate through accounting consulting by 6x, I decided to go the sales route. Not only is it more lucrative, but now I can work whenever I want, wherever I want.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My income is mostly passive now. I generate leads through social media and direct them to the site of my partner firm. From there, they handle the sales call and conversion process.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The ups and downs of the income. I was coming from a 9-5 job that was not salaried, so I was already used to it, but you have to save aggressively and do a lot of financial planning- personal and business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow your own gut/heart. Advice is plentiful, especially coming from veteran business owners. You really have to define your values and passions. Otherwise, you'll end up spinning your gears! Shiny new object syndrome, much?
  2. What worked for someone else may not work for you! And vice versa.
  3. Hire a coach!!!!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I went through a business program this year called the Mylance Accelerator Bootcamp. They helped me increase my hourly rate by 6x. Now I am focused on getting to my first 7-figure, passive sales year. I am looking for a new coach/community. Read about Kat Norton's success on TikTok months ago, where she made 6-figure days. Considering working with her two coaches: Ashley Hann and Lacy Phillips. As well as a Linkedin coach named Helen Pritchard that was recommended to me prior. I just decided this yesterday, so you may have to follow up with me in a couple of months to see how I'm doing!
