Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jack Al-Kahwati, Founder and CEO of Lattis, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Lattis is a micro-mobility platform that enables any vehicle operator around the world to manage shared bikes, scooters, delivery fleets, mopeds, and more. With Lattis, operators can easily manage their fleets, track usage, and ensure that their devices are in good working condition. Additionally, Lattis offers a subscription management system for retailers, allowing them to create and manage different subscription plans, set up recurring billing, and track customer subscriptions and usage patterns. Lattis customers include bike and scooter rental companies, delivery fleet operators, and retailers that offer micro-mobility devices for rental.

Tell us about yourself

As an aerospace engineer by background, I have spent a decade in the industry before founding Lattis. My passion for the environment and transportation lead me to start Lattis with the goal of accelerating the adoption of electric bikes as a form of sustainable transportation. My motivation is to bring about positive change in the world, and I find great fulfillment in solving problems and making a difference on a daily basis through Lattis.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My proudest moment was bringing our first product, a smart connected bike lock, to market. Seeing an idea come to life and being on store shelves was an incredibly fulfilling and emotional experience, like watching a child graduate from college. It's truly rewarding to be able to bring positive change to the world through problem-solving on a daily basis with Lattis.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the most challenging aspects of being a business owner is managing stress. As a founder, it's important to learn how to handle stress and not let it affect your personal life. Building a company is a marathon, not a sprint. It's crucial to remember that and not to burn out too quickly.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't chase the money.
  2. Become an expert.
  3. Try to have fun.
