Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Seaboy, founder of Laura Seaboy Esthetics LLC., located in Apple Valley, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hello, my name is Laura Seaboy, and I am an Advanced Esthetician and Certified Multimedia Makeup Artist. I offer advanced facials, dermaplaning, chemical peels, and special event makeup application. Building relationships with my clients on their journey has led to genuine connections as we navigate their customized services, whether with skin or makeup. I love seeing their confidence in their unique beauty and authentic selves.

Tell us about yourself

I began my career at Normandale college for Fine Arts and painting. My talents were recognized by being on the Saint Paul College Presidents Honor List, the SkillsUSA Esthetics MN State Champion, and a Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society member. As a freelance makeup artist, I am multifaceted and work in a variety of mediums such as film, commercial, bridal, and special effects. My work has been featured on Nickelodeon, NFL Films, Trolli, Periscope, and more.

My entrepreneurial journey began in a spacious treatment room for Laura Seaboy Esthetics housed in the prestigious Suitespot Salonspa. In 2021 The Suitespot was nominated as an ‘Inspiring Salon’ by The Professional Beauty Association. My mastery of art, makeup, skincare, and everything to do with beauty has earned me the nickname Glow Getter.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Opening and maintaining my business through covid, social unrest, and family loss. Growing and healing with the community is so important to me. Always invest and show up for yourself so that you can give your best to your clients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You are your own boss can be the most amazing and most challenging sentence. You get to make your own hours and decide what services you will be doing, but you also have to show up for the hard stuff. You are in charge of finances. You are running errands, buying products and supplies, and doing admin work. It is a full-time gig but so rewarding.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I would say really sit with yourself and create your brand, right down to the colors and font. When you truly know yourself, you can convey it to your clients. Set up the back end, so you are organized and everything is connected. This way, you don't get into trouble with finances or feel like you are missing things. Lastly, make sure to take time for yourself. You can't pour from an empty cup. And as a mom of a toddler and a small business, I always try to make sure my cup (and coffee) is always replenished.
