What's your business, and who are your customers?

Lewie is an oral healthcare company with products designed to improve the way you care for your smile! Anyone with teeth who loves to smile can benefit from our product line, but we cater to Millennial men and women who are active, enjoy being social, and care about their overall health and wellness.

Tell us about yourself

I have worked as a dentist for almost 20 years, and while there are so many things I love about being a dentist, I wanted to do something that allowed me to help more people care for their smiles than just those who walk through my door. Educating and assisting people in caring for oral health is what pushes me to keep going even when it's hard!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Bootstrapping a product-based company at nearly 40 years old hasn't been easy, but it has been fun! I hold two patents for Lewie's unique designs. I'm proud of trying something new and innovative and hope to show that there is no age limit on reinventing yourself!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The unknown outcome of decisions is both exciting and, at times, terrifying! Putting yourself or your product outcomes with outside opinions they are usually full of mixed reviews. I think most people are genuinely interested in helping, but you will encounter those who aren't. Listening to criticism can be hard, but it's necessary for growth both personally and professionally!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. There is no better time to start living your dream than right now!
  2. Find your tribe and your support group, and continue to grow your network.
  3. Ask questions and be open to the answers, you may be an expert on certain things, but there are always people who know more than you and are willing to help if you ask!
