Get Started on Your Own Yoga Journey - Life Support Yoga

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rachel Bairstow, Owner of Life Support Yoga, located in Boston, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I offer private yoga sessions, both virtually and in-person, to people who either don’t feel like they “fit” into group yoga classes or have demanding schedules and want personalized instruction on their own time.

Tell us about yourself

I’ve been teaching yoga in group and private settings for over 15 years. In 2019, I began focusing more on private yoga because the rewards for the client (and myself!) are substantial and powerful. People can make incredible strides in their yoga practice with the sole focus of a dedicated teacher, and watching people experience the joy of a breakthrough keeps me motivated.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I pivoted to online yoga and, at one point, had a completely full teaching schedule. I’ve recently expanded my schedule, and I’m ready to get back to 100%!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Owning a business, especially a solo venture, can sometimes feel lonely, even if you work with people all day. It helps to join (and actively participate in) the right networking groups, as well as setting up “work dates” with people in the same (or similar) industry. Anything that holds you accountable and gets you some face time with people you admire and respect!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Examine your own areas of resistance. Stay awake and aware of the sneaky ways that fear can keep you from making your next move.
  2. When something truly doesn’t feel right for you, say no, without apology, and redirect your energy to things that help and serve your business.
  3. Participate in your networks and offer your expertise to them whenever you can. They will be delighted to help you in return the next time you need it.
