Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsay Pinchuk, Founder and CEO of Lindsay Pinchuk Marketing + Consulting, located in Northbrook, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Lindsay Pinchuk Marketing + Consulting. I've been growing brands for nearly 25 years, but I've forever used ONE method to build my own brands and that of my clients and students. My signature SWEEP Method utilizes Social Media, Website, Emails, Events, Partnerships + Publicity to generate and execute cost-effective, community-centric marketing strategies. I am a consultant, coach, public speaker, and teacher, working with female founders to ignite their brand awareness using SWEEP. You can also find me behind the mic of my Top 2% podcast, Dear FoundHer, a twice weekly letter to support female founders on their entrepreneurship journey.

Tell us about yourself

With just a $500 investment, I left the job I loved so much to found my first company, a community for parents and parents-to-be. I turned a profit in year one and created unique partnerships with Target, Nordstrom, The Honest Company, Seventh Generation, Huggies, ULTA, and many more. Bootstrapping the company and never taking an outside investment, I grew the company to 7-figures year-over-year in revenue and built its community to reach over 3MM users per month through my signature SWEEP Method utilizing Social Media, your Website, Emails, Events, Partnerships + Publicity to generate and execute cost-effective, community-centric marketing strategies.

Less than a decade later, I led my company's acquisition by a large agency holding company. Following a successful exit, I am now a consultant, coach, public speaker, and teacher, working with businesses, both large and small, to ignite their brand awareness using SWEEP. My goal is to support female founders the way I myself wish I had been supported from day one. If just ONE PERSON learns from my experiences, I've done my job. I look to bring success faster to my community through the lessons I share, and in turn, I want to set a good example for future generations of women, in particular, my two amazing daughters.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Leading my company through an acquisition and then knowing when it was time to leave. The process of leaving the company you built is a TOUGH one. Just as if you may feel like it's never a good time to start, it's never going to be the right time to leave. Or so you think. But you'll know when it's time.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding the time to manage it all. As a business owner, you wear so many different hats. It's imperative to figure out what you can outsource and how you can get help to free up your time to focus on the business. Delegating is never easy. Most business owners are Type A (like myself), so it's hard to give things up. But in order to grow, you have to.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just go for it. Honestly, there's never the right time; your website is never going to be perfect, but just put it out there. You can always make adjustments and changes, but if you don't put it out there, you'll never know if you have a viable concept.
  2. Know the value of your time, and don't accept less unless you feel like it is an even trade. It's important that you understand this and that you know it's ok to walk away.
  3. Outsource accordingly. You can't do everything. For example, I know I am not great at finance. And the time it was taking me to do my books in the beginning was costing me more than hiring someone. Once I hired a part-time bookkeeper to take that job off my plate, my time was freed up to do other things.
