Healing on All Levels - Lion's Heart Acupuncture & Wellness

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kim Peirano, Owner of Lion's Heart Acupuncture & Wellness, Inc., located in San Rafael, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As an Acupuncturist and Jungian Life Coach, I offer a breadth of services, from in-person acupuncture sessions to life coaching via telehealth. My specialties are mental, emotional, and spiritual health - I help people with ailments of all varieties, but where I truly help them is in how they respond and work with these ailments along their path of healing.

Tell us about yourself

I am a lifelong learner and just a downright curious person. I've always asked the question of 'why' or 'how' and strive to find that answer. Within my work, the question is often - how can someone relieve suffering even if / when their illness won't or cannot resolve? Seeing the tangible shifts in my patients and clients is a big motivator for me. I see how they change and shift how they interact with their life, how they grow or show up for themselves in new ways, and it's incredibly inspiring. I'm thrilled to be a part of their journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I could answer this question by listing off all kinds of neat awards, but honestly, it's the day-to-day transformations that take place in my clients. It's not one big huge award or a great year financially, but seeing myself evolve. My practice has evolved to a place where I'm producing more and more effective treatments and going deeper into the practice of Chinese medicine and coaching, which I think is the biggest accomplishment I've had.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Dealing with my own reactions to the ups and downs of owning a business is something I have to work on consistently. Your business is often a part of you, so any low-season or dissatisfied customer can feel like a knife straight through your heart. I use a lot of my coaching practices to help with this, looking at my resistance to being seen as a failure or not good enough and integrating those fears so that I can keep showing up as more and more of my full self.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Go all in. When I first started, I kind of tip-toed in, and when I finally branched out on my own, which was a leap, things really started to blossom.
  2. Do it YOUR way, not how you think anyone else wants you to or how you think you 'should' do it. What makes your business your business is that it's your unique creation; you have to do it in whatever way works and makes sense for you, don't worry about what others think; the right people will find you.
  3. Keep working on yourself through the process; I think having a coach or someone by your side is essential. You need a team. I'm a 'I can do it all myself' type of person but letting other people in has been incredibly helpful.
