Establish and Scale Your Brand - Lisa Jones

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Jones, e-commerce strategist and business coach based in Jervis Bay, NSW, Australia.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder of Lisa Jones + Co, a leading Australian e-commerce coaching and strategist business for female-led product brands. Over the last three years, I have coached more than 200 female-run Australian e-commerce brands in Australia, helping them to clearly articulate their brand strategies and paths to growth. Many have gone on to double and triple their sales, website conversion rates, and other key metrics.

Tell us about yourself

I am a passionate e-commerce expert and builder of 3x multi-million dollar e-commerce brands. Most famous for co-founding Ecoriginals, the world's greenest nappy and wipes brand, which I sold to a private equity investor in 2020, I am currently building up my new e-com brand - Aussie Man Hands (hand cream for tradies!!). I also share my uncomplicated approach to starting, growing, and scaling up online brands through my high-touch mentoring programs and retreats, as well as sharing my expertise on stages, inside my podcast and book, and all my social channels. I am motivated by helping women feel fulfilled in business while reducing their working hours as they grow leaner and more automated with future-proofed businesses.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am proudest of the creation of SHE-com, a community enabling female business owners to connect with each other through stories, successes, and strategies. Since its inception in 2022, SHE-com has now grown to encompass a 2-day conference (SHE-com LIVE), retreats, a dinner series featuring inspiring inspirational speakers, and providing women in the community an opportunity to connect with each other, product awards - and more on the horizon.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

A truly creative entrepreneur, I love coming up with new ideas constantly - my struggle comes with finding the time and the right people to help implement all my plans and managing working ON the business rather than in it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand your "why" and what success looks like to you. Ask yourself - what do I truly want from my business? Am I passionate about it? What can my business give me that would make me feel satisfied? Once you understand your drivers, it's easier to build your dream!
  2. Before you invest in a whole lot of products, prove your concept! Use social media to ask around also for feedback on your concept, test samples of your product with at least 5-10 potential customers (not just friends and family), and ask for feedback. Don't forget to do a thorough competitor analysis - just because no one else is making wigs for dogs doesn't mean there's a market for wigs for dogs!
  3. Massive Imperfect Action! It's easy to get stuck on the little things. But instead of making your products and website perfect, just get selling. Move every single day forwards toward your revenue goals. One of the things we see the most is people getting paralysed because there are just too many things on their to-do lists. Instead, focus every single day on massive imperfect action - just get selling!!
