What's your business, and who are your customers?
Pop On The Block is a gourmet popcorn company offering over 50 flavors. We offer eleven varieties of kernels, seasonings, bowls, poppers, and more. Everything Popcorn! Our customer base is anyone who loves popcorn.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Lisa Rose, and I love popcorn so much that in 2016 I took it to another level and opened a popcorn store on Block Island, RI. I had suspected people would love our high-quality popcorn and custom mouthwatering flavors, and I was right. In a seaside location where we compete with behemoths like Saltwater Taffy, we not only held our own but thrived.
Today, we have two brick-and-mortar locations, with a third opening this summer. We also have a booming online business for retail sales and the corporate gift market. Growing my business is my motivation each day. I love the challenge, always throwing darts at the board to see what sticks.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been the growth of the company. I also am proud that we have very little employee turnover. Each team member is proud to be a part of this company and contributes to its growth.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think others will agree here. Having my hands on every aspect is the business's most challenging part. Trying to balance what needs to be accomplished each day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a business plan, and follow it. Make adjustments when necessary.
- Hire good people.
- Be patient. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.
