Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fashion and design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Springsteel Dupre, Founder, and CEO of Launch Your Collection LLC., located in Cary, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are the only apparel launch consultancy in existence that offers every major service needed to get launched in one place. Our clients are fashion start-ups who are looking for a consulting team to walk them step-by-step through the apparel launch process.

Tell us about yourself

I am a 19-year New York fashion industry executive, having worked at Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, and J. Mendel. I am also the author of the book, Becoming a Fashion Designer (Wiley) and the founder and CEO of Launch Your Collection, a one-stop apparel launch consultancy for emerging fashion brands. I was inspired to start my company when I realized just how many people wanted to start their own fashion brands but had no fashion background or idea of how to begin. I am passionate about helping fashion entrepreneurs make their dream of launching their own fashion label come true, and that passion fuels my motivation to work with as many clients as I can to bring their vision to life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is coming up with a completely unique concept that not only works but allows me to run and grow a scalable business - all from the comfort of my home.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing all the hats. Before you make it really big, you still have your hands in every aspect of the business - from operations to client work to growing your business. It is challenging to juggle everything, but eventually, everything falls into place.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a vision and stick with it. Even the Shark Tank investor sometimes gets it wrong, so don't let other people's opinions steer you away from fulfilling your dream.
  2. Research and figure out the best resources that work for your particular business and implement them from the start (Asana for project management, for example). Automate as much as possible.
  3. Have a foolproof standardized method for delivering your product or service that gets results for your customers/clients, and make sure that their experience working with you is superior and top of mind. This also includes professional branding that is cohesive across every touchpoint (from social media to your website to your packaging).
