A Holistic Mental Health Collective for Couples - LITTherapy

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danielle McDowell, Founder of LITTherapy, located in Virginia Beach, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a group of mental health and wellness professionals who provide quality mental health and wellness care. As a wellness collective, we assist our clients by providing therapy, wellness workshops/retreats, stress management classes, and more. Let us help you connect with one of our professionals who meets your needs and is available to see you online or in person (based on class schedule).

Tell us about yourself

In my work as a mental health professional, I found that when couples create a healthy foundation, the entire family benefits from the change. As a wife and mother in a blended family, I know firsthand many of the struggles a relationship can face. I became passionate about working with couples when I noticed I could impact relationships with my skill set and unique way of supporting others.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have been able to grow our business and hire our first employee. We have connected with other wellness professionals and will be offering stress management classes in the fall for individuals and couples.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a business owner, you are responsible for many factors in the success of the business. I have learned how to manage those various roles while setting boundaries to ensure I have personal time with my family and myself. I work really hard to practice what I teach to my clients when it comes to self-care and boundaries.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it scared and learn along the way.
  2. Surround yourself with others who are doing a similar thing to help offer you a sounding board when needed or a safe ear to vent when things get hard.
  3. Always work to grow and sustain a team of people to help with your business goals. If you treat all your employees well, they will help you to thrive in your business goals.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Mental health support should be just as important as physical health support. As you are accustomed to seeing a physician for your physical needs, I encourage you to see a mental health professional for your emotional and relationship needs.
