Custom Everyday Flowers from Southeast Manitoba - Little Flower Shop

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in floristry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Peggy Wiebe, owner of Little Flower Shop, located in Ile des Chenes, MB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a full-service florist and event rental company. Our customers demand high quality and creative style. European is our look, and we offer lots of home décor pieces. Our customer service is our top priority.

Tell us about yourself

My family are big gardeners and have lots of flowers. I was given the gift of design from the heart, every day is different, and I really can't get enough of the next wedding or the next flower recipe. The change of seasons brings a new array of colors, textures, and fragrances.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Thirty years and still enjoy everyday design and all the pretty things, mostly the clients' faces that receive flowers, plants, and gifts.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest by far is staffing. It's a different world for young workers to be highly motivated, but the odd one comes along, and you hope they stay and flourish (no pun). The best is having the younger generation move quickly around the computer in a digital world.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

You must have a clear vision of what you want to share as a creative artist. You need your backup staff to reach your goals, or you can burn out. Stay humble. Nobody likes a bragger do good things promote subtly, on to the next job it is that simple.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Nobody cares about your business more than you do. Stay fresh and be satisfied with what you get to be in your communities as much as possible. Give back when you can get within reason.
