Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisabeth Smith, Owner of Live Bright Reiki, located in Littleton, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called Live Bright Reiki. The name is because I believe everyone should live as bright life as possible, and the initials are the same as mine! Reiki is spiritually guided healing energy. I channel energy into everything! The calming, healing energy is beneficial to all things. I work with people (and sometimes pets) of all ages and backgrounds, from babies to those at the end of their journey.

People come to see me for a variety of reasons. Mental and emotional issues, trauma, body aches, or to get healing during and after cancer treatments. Some come in just to see what it is all about.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Lisabeth. It is pronounced as "Lisa Beth". Many people call me LB. I got started with reiki after I found it beneficial to my own journey. Like almost everyone, I had health issues and past trauma that were interfering with my life. I had an appointment with an amazing healer and saw results after my first session.

I was telling my friend about my experience, and she told me that she was thinking about learning reiki. I had no idea it could be taught! I was so excited. At first, I wanted it for myself and my family, but then I realized what an impact it had on us and wanted to share it with even more people.

My motivation is to help people heal. I also teach Reiki classes with my friend so more people can spread light and healing. I consider it such an honor to assist people on their journey and, even at times, support their transition from this life to the next. I have always known that I am here to help others. Now with reiki, I can guide more people on their path.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, I have so many things I am proud of. The biggest is probably that I am still doing it and I am not stressed about how it will go. I work every day on something, and yet it still takes time for me.

I am at peace with how my business has progressed, and I try to always live in the moment. I know that what I need will be provided, and I trust in the Divine to bring me who and what I need.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a business owner has a lot of rewards and challenges. I find it important to be aware of all your strengths and weaknesses. My weaknesses are organization and staying on top of the busy work. Bookkeeping is my kryptonite. I am good at it. I just put it last because it is the least fun aspect of my business!

When you are focused on helping people heal, the busy work sometimes gets neglected. It is an important thing to stay on top of, so I am always trying to schedule a time to keep a handle on it!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know the rules and tax laws. Every type of business is a bit different in what is required. Educate yourself fully and consult with others who have done it. Utilize your resources. Friends, family, and local businesses are great places to get help and ideas.
  2. Stay focused, have a plan, and write it down. Know exactly how much you want/need to make and research the best way to do this. Make a list of all the things you will need, i.e., office space, equipment, etc.
  3. Remember that it will take time, live in the present moment, ask for help, and never give up!
