Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Sherman, Owner of Live4 Inc, located in Acton, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Live4 is a sports physical therapy and wellness company. We help athletes and active individuals accelerate injury recovery, optimize athletic performance, and reduce the risk of future injury. We are redefining the physical therapy experience by providing 1:1 individualized care that supports clients at any stage of physical health - before, during, and after injury.

Our treatment philosophy combines physical therapy, sports medicine, and wellness which allows our clients to gain an understanding of how lifestyle factors, including movement, nutrition, environment, and psychology, can impact injury prevention and recovery. Our mission is to empower you to discover your own physical health potential.

Tell us about yourself

Over time, healthcare has become a reactive and impersonal system. One that is driven less by the patient and more by numbers, reimbursement, and productivity. This is frustrating to patients and clinicians alike and often results in poor outcomes. So, Dave (my partner and co-owner) and I set out to redefine the physical therapy experience and place people back at the center of healthcare.

We have two main goals that motivate us every day:

  1. Shift the mindset of how physical therapy fits into our lives from a reactive to proactive service. At Live4, we view physical therapy and wellness as an infinite system that provides you with a movement-focused health and wellness ally throughout life. This shifts the focus from creating stable people to developing resilient individuals. Ultimately, this approach leads to a life of successful movement experiences and decreased episodes of injury.
  2. Empower clients to be a partner in their care. When people seek help from a professional, they often look for specific instruction. But no master key will unlock all doors. Therefore, we are each unique individual and are best served as a partner in the process. At Live4, we are here to guide clients through the process, but they lead their care.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a community of individuals who believe in our mission. We put in years of work crafting Live4 but weren't quite sure how people would react to this unique approach to health and wellness. We have been overwhelmed with the support. People are seeking a more personalized approach to health, and we are so excited to be a resource for them throughout their health and wellness journey.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Especially in the early phases, the business consumes so much of our thoughts, energy, and time. Somehow, it is the easiest and the hardest part of being a business owner. It is our pride and joy, so we want to think about it all the time, but that can also become overwhelming.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Mindset changes everything (both positively and negatively) - motivation, self-confidence, and psychological readiness can all improve outcomes. Use them to your advantage.
  2. Build a supportive team - even if you are a solopreneur, find your people to bounce ideas off. Mentorship from those who have been on this journey before is invaluable to the success of your dream.
  3. Create time for yourself - there can be a lot of flexibility in your schedule when creating and growing your own business, but there is also a never-ending to-do list. Set aside time for rest, recovery, and the things you love.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Just like recovery from injury, entrepreneurship is not a straight line up and to the right. There will be ups and downs. Failing is part of the process, but you must learn from those mistakes to grow and move forward. Enjoy the journey.
