Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Phan, CEO of LIVV Natural Health, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

LIVV was created to be an inviting space to educate, empower, and support you to reach your optimal self. We work with you to investigate your health and identify any roadblocks that are preventing you from LIVV well. Learning your body is an adventure, and we are here to help guide you. We believe that feeling well and being well is the foundation of how to LIVV well!

Tell us about yourself

I am passionate about helping individuals reach their goals in health and in life. I attended Bastyr University and utilized my knowledge gained from a leading institution in alternative medicine to help others in a unique way. I received my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Arizona State University.

While my interest in the biomechanics and rehabilitation of the body grew, I began to specialize in Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy with joint injections in particular. I created LIVV Natural Health to be a platform for me to reach a larger audience and impact not only those around me but everyone in the world.

My motivation stems from changing healthcare and the way we view our own health. Having an impact on each and every patient's life is the purpose/drive I bring into the business each and every day. Motivating and inspiring my team to push them to be their best - so we can, in turn, help more people!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe the biggest accomplishment as a business owner is investing back into my team + elevating the experience and patient care for my patients. I have invested not only $$$ but time + energy from not just myself but everyone that is on my team. Leading a team of young medical professionals is not only rewarding, but I feel privileged to be given this opportunity, and I do not take it lightly.

A thing about me is - I will not FEEL accomplished until we have touched every single person on this planet to LIVV a better life is just one way. To live a healthier lifestyle, to have access to good food, clean water, and medical services that will eradicate chronic disease and chronic conditions. That's the GOAL!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is the pressure it comes with to SUCCEED. Success means something different to every business owner. But you get the pressure from your team - to provide leadership, future opportunities, good financial compensation, and to make the hard decisions. Not only the management of your team and their goals - you must deliver and over-deliver VALUE to your customer or, in our case-patients. Can you provide a good market fit of the products and services you are selling, and can you do that at the highest level? Lastly, you have to make those hard decisions in the mindset of the business as a whole - which the ultimate goal is not to go out of business (lose all $$$ = bankruptcy)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Learn how to market to YOUR market - learn about your industry - who are the top companies, what they are doing, how they are marketing, what their sales funnels look like, what CRMs are they using, and how much money they are spending on advertising, how much are they spending on backlinks - you need to have a detailed understanding of exactly how your industry works - and how can you do it BETTER & DIFFERENT.
  2. Know your NUMBERS - understand your capital, run rates, break-even points, and can you make enough money to sustain the business. What are the financial projections, and can you meet those projections? What is the financial strategy, and what is the end goal of the business? Getting acquired is going to be different than having a cash cow type business & it will be a different strategy on where you invest your $$ and resources as the business grows.
  3. JUST DO IT - the best time is now! Don't wait to get started. If you have an idea, passion, and drive to start a business, just go for it! I started my business with $4,000 and went $110,000 into credit card debt. Now we are one of the top producing health/wellness spas in San Diego, with two additional locations in the works. The best way to be a business owner is to BE ONE!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
