What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a professional life coach, master trainer, and spokesperson for the disability community. I am very passionate about supporting individuals impacted by disability within their own lives or the lives of their loved ones. I feel so fortunate to be able to connect with others through life coaching, professional coach training, and speaking engagements. I absolutely love what I do and am so grateful that my business connects me with such amazing and inspiring individuals.

Tell us about yourself

In the years before the birth of my children, I worked at a mental health non-profit. I loved that role, but after becoming a mom, I decided to stay home with my children. As someone with cerebral palsy, I can't carry my children. That is why it was so important to me to be home with them throughout their infancy and soak up every precious moment of holding them that I could. I will never regret that decision, but at the time didn't take into account how hard it was for me, as it is for many people with disabilities, to break into the workforce. That is why I decided that this time around, I was going to create my own business on my own terms. I decided that the best path for me to do so was to become a life coach. I could never have imagined at the time how life-changing that decision had come to be. I now have my own thriving coaching practice. I am also the Director of Fowler International Academy of Professional Coaching's We Live Without Limits Division. Through We Live Without Limits, I have the pleasure of training people with disabilities to become life coaches. It is truly full circle for me to not only have created a flexible, home-based business for myself but also be in a position to help others do the same.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been feeling the impact of the work that I do. The gratification I feel from coaching my clients to achieve their goals and help people unleash their abilities is incredible. It is also such a gift to have created a business that I love around the needs of my family and children.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest parts of being a business owner is seeing through the peaks and valleys. As a solo entrepreneur, when business is booming, it can be challenging to manage. At the same time, when things slow down, it can be discouraging. Being mindful of how and when to pivot has been critical to giving me and my business what's needed to ensure success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your end game before you get started.
  2. Don't let fear or self-doubt stop you.
  3. Your time is your most precious asset. Work hard but work smart.
