Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hannah Snider, CEO of Lola & Me Therapy LLC., located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a therapeutic practice for mental health treatment. I see people from all walks of life who are experiencing suicidal ideation, trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

Tell us about yourself

I was motivated to start my business during the pandemic when I decided schools were no longer the place for me due to the feeling I could not serve students to my fullest capabilities. I started working in this field due to my passion for helping people with suicidal thoughts and doing animal-assisted work. I am motivated each day by my incredibly resilient clients and the amazing work Lola and I get to do with them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the ability to do what I love and make ends meet while seeing my clients flourish. It seems so simple, but this is why I am in the business of helping people.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing as a business owner, particularly in my setting, is providing service that is accessible for everyone while also making a living wage. I do this by doing private pay for clients while also having a reduced fee rate for people who cannot pay my full rate. I also partner with other organizations that pay for clients' services so I can see clients who I would otherwise not be able to see. Balance is key within my energy as well. The hardest realization I had was that I am my product, and investing in myself and prioritizing myself in order to serve clients has been a hard battle.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Set your prices for what you are worth! This does not make you selfish; you must protect your energy to serve others, which starts with you. Invest in you, as you are the product.
  2. Enjoy every day of what you are doing and who you are working with. This is why you create a business in the first place, and it's easy to lose sight of what matters and who you are serving.
  3. Get a phenomenal financial and marketing team or take some courses, so you feel educated to support yourself in both of those spaces.
