Fiverr PRO Writer, Ghostwriter, Health Coach - Lori Geurin

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lori Geurin, Founder of LoriGeurin.com | Wellness for Life, located in Springfield, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

LoriGeurin.com | Wellness for Life is the name of the wellness blog I started a few years ago while battling a debilitating chronic illness. The blog was originally a way to share what I was learning about health and wellness as I desperately searched for answers to help me regain my health.

My business has grown to include my Thrive Berry Etsy shop, where I sell printables and t-shirts to help people get healthy, organized, and inspired.

I recently opened an Amazon store to sell health and wellness planners and journals. And I just released the second edition of my book about intermittent fasting.

I started my freelance writing business on Fiverr one year ago and have been pleasantly surprised by the opportunities coming my way. I help brands and companies worldwide with their blogging, article writing, editing, and brand identity needs.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a former special education teacher turned freelance writer and Certified Holistic Wellness and Life Coach. My husband and I have four grown children, and we recently became empty nesters.

I'm motivated every day to help others achieve their wellness goals because I know firsthand how debilitating chronic illness can be. I'm passionate about helping people learn how to take control of their health so they can prevent or manage chronic diseases and live their best life possible. I'm also motivated to learn and improve my writing skills to serve my clients better.

What they say about if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life is true for me. I'm grateful every day that I get to do what I love and help others in the process.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is growing my business to the point where it now helps support my family financially. When I started my blog, my sole purpose was to help others struggling with their health. I was blogging a few years before I knew about "blogging for business," and I started thinking about ways to make money from my blog and other creative outlets.

I'm thankful I've been able to turn my passion for health and wellness and writing into a thriving business with several income streams. It's been a lot of hard work, but it's also been incredibly rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is learning to trust your instincts and make decisions based on what's best for your business, not what others think you should do.

When I started my blog, I had no idea what I was doing and made many mistakes. But with each mistake, I learned a valuable lesson that has helped me think outside the box, create multiple income streams, and take my business to the next level.

It's not always easy to go against the grain, but it's often necessary if you want to be successful as a business owner. Don't worry about making mistakes. Just learn from them and keep moving forward.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Done is better than perfect. This has helped me more times than I can count. When you're starting a business, there will always be things you wish you could do better or change. But at some point, you have to just put your product or service out there and see what happens. The perfectionist in me wants everything to be perfect before I launch it, but I've learned that it's better to get it out there and make adjustments as needed.
  2. Take care of yourself. Because I love my job so much, sometimes I have to force myself to step away and take a break. I've learned that if I don't take care of myself, I won't be able to take care of my family or business. Being a freelancer has a lot of benefits, but it can be difficult to close up shop for the day when you have new orders coming in. It's hard to step away, but setting boundaries and giving yourself grace is essential so you don't burn out.
  3. Be patient and consistent. Building a successful business takes time, dedication, and consistency. There will be ups and downs, but if you keep working at it, eventually, you'll start to see the fruits of your labor. Just remember to be patient and stay the course.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you're thinking about starting a business but are unsure where to start, my best advice would be just to start. It doesn't have to be perfect, and it doesn't have to be big. Just start with something small and work on it little by little. You might be surprised at how much you can accomplish if you just take that first step. Put yourself out there and go for it!

I also think it's essential to test everything you do. Try different things and see what works for you and your business. What works for me might not work for you, and vice versa. The most important thing is to find what works for you and run with it.

Finally, I would say never stop learning, have a growth mindset, and practice positive self-talk. Read books, listen to podcasts, and take courses. There's always something new to learn, and the more you know, the better equipped you'll be to grow your business.
