Tell us about yourself

I am the owner and lead marketing strategist at Web Theory Designs, has over 20 years of IT, web development, and digital marketing experience. I have created, developed, and managed web marketing projects for organizations like Whirlpool, a Fortune 500 company, to smaller thriving startups from across the country. Prior to my work in the Internet Marketing industry, I worked in fast-paced, high-demand IT departments providing technical expertise for some of the largest natural gas trading and marketing corporations in the United States. I graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems and am passionate about self-improvement, digital marketing technology, and providing strategic roadmaps for growing businesses.

I am a life-long entrepreneur. I can remember being five years old and trying to sell a He-Man arm at a yard sale. Not the entire, He-Man, just the arm. :) For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to own a business. Motivation? The best feeling in the world is building a strategic roadmap for a business, implementing the strategy, and delivering results to a customer who trusts your vision. Working in Digital Marketing allows you to use the latest and greatest tools, which keep things new and exciting.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I measure my success as a business owner by how many people I can help. I am proud of building a team of hard-working and super-talented members that share the same vision. The goal from day one was to build an agency that could build high-quality websites for our clients that also deliver unforgettable online experiences. We're making good on that goal 365 days of the year.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The biggest challenge of being a business owner is the responsibility of making the right decision. The right decision is for your business, for your employees, and for yourself. Sometimes, they are the same decision, and sometimes the complete opposite. Every day you are faced with new challenges and obstacles to deal with. You never know when or how your industry and trends are going to shift. Knowing which decision to make and choosing the right time to make those decisions is never easy. The approach is always the same, regardless of the situation.

Step 1: Define the Problem.
Step 2: Clarify the Problem.
Step 3: Define the Goals.
Step 4: Identify the Root Cause of the Problem.
Step 5: Develop an Action Plan.
Step 6: Execute the Action Plan.
Step 7: Evaluate the Results.
Step 8: Continuously Improve.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Give yourself permission to fail. It's okay to fail. You're not going to get it right or perfect on the first try, and that's okay.
  2. Dream Big and work backward. Set big goals and break them down into smaller manageable chunks of time and milestones. For example, Set a yearly goal, Break that goal into 12-month goals, then break those monthly goals into 4-5 weekly goals.
  3. Document and Delegate. If you plan to scale your business, you'll want to document all processes and procedures and then delegate the tasks that you don't want to do. Everything you do can be done by someone else as long as there is documentation. Documentation equals freedom.
