Tell us about yourself

I started as a makeup artist working in retail, and I realized that I could not offer the services I wanted to my clients due to other demands my employer was asking for. At the same time, I did not find joy in working for someone else, and becoming my own boss was a goal. This way, I could offer my great services without any restrictions but also be able to build something that was mine. It was a time when I realized why I had moved to America. If I continued to work for someone else, it would not give me the possibility to achieve my dreams. It's better to work hard to build my dream rather than build someone else's business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing the great reviews from my clients and knowing that I was able to offer a five stars experience/service -  is a big accomplishment to me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a business owner/ self-employed means that you don't get to have to time off. Even on vacation, I verify my emails and respond to inquiries from my clients. The thought that we don't get a constant paycheck is very scary, and thus we always have to work on ways to generate business. This is probably the hardest thing to deal with. Unless you have a team who runs different tasks for you, other aspects come into play, which is another goal once the budget permits.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be consistent, do not expect to get results right away, and do not give up.
  2. Stay positive and try to learn different aspects of the business.
  3. Be the best version of yourself, be honest and respectful, have great communication skills, and have a great work ethic that the client will not pass unobserved.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Surround yourself with people who also have high goals and can lift you, people you can only learn from. Stay focused and follow the path that you chose, and do not deviate from it for reasons that are not a priority. This will slow you down and getting to your destination could take longer or not even happen.
