Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carrie Simpson, Founder of Managed Sales Pros, located in Mason, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Managed Sales Pros is a marketing agency that supports B2B companies, including manufacturers, distributors, software vendors, service providers, and resellers. We specialize in combining content and cold calling to secure qualified sales appointments for our clients.

Tell us about yourself

I founded my business when a back injury and a miracle baby ended my career as a personal trainer and Muay Thai boxing coach. I love helping small businesses become big(ger) businesses!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My company hired with the support of state-subsidized workforce enablement agencies. My biggest accomplishment is creating leaders and business owners from people who joined our company as a “last resort” - I believe telemarketing is a skill that can take you anywhere.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the most difficult thing about being a business owner is not dumping on my family when stress levels rise. Everyone is an entrepreneur when you are, but they didn’t sign up for the roller coaster, and they should be allowed to self-select out of the chaos.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start now. There is no perfect time to start a business and no magical combination of perfect circumstances.
  2. Forget your mistakes after you learn from them - you need to be your biggest cheerleader. Don’t look backward; you’re not going that way.
  3. Ask for help early. Find other entrepreneurs and surround yourself with people who know what you’re going through. It’s okay to admit you don’t know how you’re going to achieve your goals!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There are government-subsidized programs and privately subsidized programs for entrepreneurs in every state. There are mentors, money, and more available once you know how to find it!
