Tell us about yourself

My background is in international business, and I thought I would be a Corporate Expat traveling the world. Of course, I felt so lucky to be in NYC that I never wanted to leave, and I transitioned from the corporate to the entrepreneurial arena. With my entrance into the world of real estate in NYC, my need to be a global citizen remained satisfied. The company's real estate clients are about 50% international, where my personal interest lies, so I am still connected to the larger world through the business. Hence our tagline, "Our properties are local, but our clients are global".

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment is having satisfied clients who continue to refer others and return to work with the company. We even have clients that trust us to help them in areas we are not "experts" in, knowing we will incorporate the right team. When I get presents year after year from THE CLIENT, I know we have done something right!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

When I first started my business, people said to me - "wow, it must be nice to be your own boss!" But the truth is that each client is yours and your team's boss, so in fact, you have several bosses. You also have to consider each individual on your team and their specific needs to keep them happy. And the one truth every entrepreneur will agree is that you yourself are the most demanding boss, and you have to learn how to temper that.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Like the product. Like the client/customer base. Learn to like to delegate internally or with outside consultants on as many items as you can so it frees you to be the best at what makes you (and therefore your company) excel.
