Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in videography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marek Sarosiek, a Videographer & Founder of Marek Sarosiek Films, based in Saint-Hubert, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi, I'm Marek. I'm a wedding videographer based in Montreal. I truly believe that every wedding begins with a story, and every story is worthy of being told. I'm proud and honored to capture beautiful weddings and craft so many emotional love stories. The films I create are about authentic and deeply-in-love couples. The ones who love to have a good laugh and enjoy the little things in life. The ones who want something more than just a wedding video. The ones for who memories have great value and meaning.

Tell us about yourself

For the past 10 years, I developed my art and perfected my style to capture weddings in the absolutely best way possible. From the beginning, I have always loved the challenge and complexity of creating a wedding film. I pay close attention, and I deeply care about who you are and about what's important to you. I bring you the absolute best of your wedding day with breathtaking wedding memories. I want your film to reflect these elements and make your eyes shine as you watch it. Today, I craft these artistic films with a passion that I'm proud of and that couples love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is to have created a successful business as a videographer. To be able to manage every step of the business process. I'm also proud to have achieved some complex filming situations at weddings, like doing a live stream of the ceremony, drone filming, and having to manage a very tight schedule on a wedding day. These tasks are not easy, and it's very rewarding to be able to do them.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things, I think, is time management. To be able to accomplish everything within the time I have and not forget about anything. Sometimes I have a lot on my plate, and it's hard not to forget about anything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  • First is to have balance in your life with work, exercise, and friends or family.
  • Secondly, don't accept uninspiring jobs. It's not worth it to do something you don't enjoy.
  • Thirdly, Give a little bit more to your clients than it's expected. It will go a long way in the long run.
