Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in advertising services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patrick Kurowski, CEO of MarketKeep, located in Towson, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

MarketKeep is a digital marketing agency for small businesses. We help our clients to plan, place, and optimize their digital marketing strategies so that they can connect with their customers in the moments that matter most to them. Our passion is to help that small business owner who has ventured out on their own to grow their business. It is incredibly rewarding to be a part of a team that can not only grow a business but helps transform the lives of our customers in the process.

Tell us about yourself

As someone who can never sit still, I guess I was always destined to be an entrepreneur or small business owner. I first got started in this industry back in 2012 when platforms like Instagram were just beginning to take off! I gravitated towards helping out small business owners because I realized that the work I was doing was not only to help grow their business but also help them reach new heights personally. Each day brings its own challenges, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. What keeps me motivated is the ability to reach new goals both personally and professionally. To take a look at where our company has come from just 3 clients to partnering with over 200 businesses throughout the United States and globally is enough to keep me going each day! One small step at a time can lead to a rather large journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has simply been growth. Personally, I am 10 times the digital marketer I am today than when I got started. Our company has grown to heights I did not imagine reaching ever. We have over 10 members on our team now, we represent over 200 clients, and our reach is global!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part about being a business owner is really that the buck stops with you. There are no easy days in the life of a business owner, in my opinion. Ultimately every decision is yours, and you have to own it. Whether good or bad. I have two favorite sayings that I like to rely on "be where your feet are" and "this too shall pass." The hardest part about being a business owner is the feeling that you are getting pulled in many different directions. So it's important to just be where your feet are. Focus on the task at hand, complete it to the best of your abilities, and then move on to the next one. And the saying "this too shall pass" is a personal favorite of mine because even if you have good times, eventually bad ones will arise, and when you have bad times, remember that eventually, good times will come back again. It's a great saying to help keep me grounded.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I think you have to always be willing to learn, to never settle, and to be able to weather the good and the bad. The people that are always willing to learn are the ones that are always going to continue to grow. Maybe not in leaps and bounds but over time, they grow.
