The Grow-Your-Small-Business Expert - Masterminds Unlimited

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Debrena Jackson Gandy, President of Masterminds Unlimited, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a business consultant, trainer and coach, I work with small business owners, especially micro-enterprise business owners (5 or fewer employees), to uplevel and grow. On average, businesses I work with start seeing results fast, in 30-90 days. My specialty is business growth. Our philosophy is to have you start where you are with what you have. Square One is being sure that business owners we work with have the Growth Mindset, which is very different from the "Running Your Business" Mindset. And then, we use our unique approach to thinking about and thinking through Strategic Marketing to increase revenues and also profit margins.

Tell us about yourself

I am a 3rd generation entrepreneur, so business is in my blood. I had my first unofficial business at age 5 - selling dandelions, door to door, with my best friend, Peggy. The inventory was plentiful that time of year, but there was no demand. LOL! I am passionate about business being a vehicle for sharing your gifts, talents, skills, and abilities with the world, and then being compensated well for doing it with excellence. I get to help business owners, through their businesses, make bigger contributions to the world through their products, services, and also their attitude about doing it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I can’t narrow it down to one. Being a mentor to 15 amazing women leaders, writing three nationally published best-selling books, having the opportunity to help over 550 business owners thus far through my consulting, training and coaching services, training programs, courses, and private coaching, and then being personal growth and spiritual development facilitator, mentor and life coach to over 7,000 progressive African-American women and men over these past 25 years.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Keeping marketing as at least 40% of what your time and effort goes to knowing when and how to hire great people and keep them and being aware of every cent while also the big revenue picture, especially when your business continues to grow rapidly

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

One: Be sure you're crystal clear about what I call your business' unique DNA - what sets you apart from other businesses that offer something similar. Two: Once you are clear about your Business DNA, be crystal clear about YOUR "best-fit client, customer, business, or organization." You want to have an intimate understanding of the profile and nuances of your Best Fit Client, Customer or Business. Develop a marketing strategy that successfully connects and intersects you with YOUR Best Fit client, customer, business, or organization to experience sustained and increased business growth.
