Let Project Management Work for You - MBI Consulting

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mary Beth Imbarrato, owner of MBI Consulting, LLC, located in Coxsackie, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At MBI Consulting, LLC, we focus on project management. We help clients with complex projects and have trained their staff on project management fundamentals. Clients have also asked us to design and implement a project framework for their organization which will elevate their level of success with internal projects and initiatives. MBI Consulting works with individuals, companies, non-profits, government agencies, and other organizations to find solutions to their project problems.

Project management skills have been identified as a critical element to the future of work, and we're ready to help our clients prepare for that future.

Tell us about yourself

I'm an author, trainer, coach, volunteer, and Project Manager. I have been part of the project management community for over 25 years and continue to enjoy working with individuals and organizations to find solutions to their project problems.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Writing and publishing my book "The Project Roadmap - Your Hands-On Guide to Initiating, Planning, Executing, and Completing Projects." The book aligns with the project management training program that I designed and continues to deliver regularly. I enjoyed the book publishing experience so much that I wrote and published my second book in December 2022. "The Strategy Workbook - Your Resource for Initiating, Planning, Designing, and Implementing Your Strategic Plan" dovetails with The Project Roadmap. A strong project management practice is the foundation for any successful strategic plan.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Managing the business aspects of my consulting company. I enjoy working with clients, identifying solutions, training the staff, establishing project protocols, speaking at conferences, and writing about project management topics. What I don't particularly find easy is finding time for the day-to-day managing of the business - creating invoices, subscription renewals, technology upgrades, and all the other daily tasks required to keep your business afloat.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on a business where you will be doing something you really enjoy. Owning your own business is challenging, but if you really enjoy what you are doing, you can overcome those challenges.
  2. Consider seeking out a Business Advisor, or a group, so you can ask questions, share ideas and discuss growing pains. I am so grateful to have a Business Advisor that is a good fit for me and my business.
  3. Stay positive and get excited about what you have achieved, what you have learned, and how you have been able to help your clients.
